The Chariot
Aligned movement
My beloved,
Things are a moving! Whether it’s fast or slow, I know you feel it. Movement is, after all, a fundamental principle of the universe. My question for you is, Who is sitting in the driver’s seat in the journey of your life? Who’s dreaming the dreams, making the decisions, and directing the way you move through your days and years?
Of course, there are probably many people whose wants and needs impact all of these things, and they should. You are, after all, a relational being. But ultimately, my sweet, this is your one chance to live this particular life, so you get the final say in how you do it. Not a month from now or tomorrow, but right now, today.
If anyone or anything other than your essence is consistently directing your movement, it’s time to begin reclaiming your agency. And naming that truth is the first step. Turning inward is the next.
How do you want to move through the world? What do YOU dream of deep down? What path do you want to take to get there? Are there any parts of you that long for greater expression?
Even if no one else is gripping the steering wheel of your life, but you keep going down paths that are at odds with your soul’s yearnings, a long-hidden part of you is probably the one in charge.
This driver isn’t going off the map simply to defy you. No, it actually thinks it knows a better route, for even when it leads to angst, at least it’s a familiar kind of angst. It’s convinced that it’s doing a much better job of keeping you safe than you ever could, so it’s not going to give up its position easily. And getting into a battle of wills with it will only make it worse.
But there is another way.
Ask this mysterious driver who looks and sounds a lot like you to pull over for a picnic and a heart-to-heart. With as much gentleness as you can muster, let it know that you are grateful for its efforts to take good care of you, and that you’d like to understand why it thinks its route is the better one. You might find that it’s trying really hard to bring you toward love and away from emotional discomfort. It may even think your survival depends on it.
Knowing that, can you soften toward the part who keeps steering you off the map you’ve been crafting? Can you forgive it, knowing it meant you no harm? Can you maybe even wrap it up in gratitude for all its attempts at getting you someplace safe? It’s been working so hard for so long.
This driver took the wheel when it could barely touch the pedals. It doesn’t realize how capable you now are at being with the discomforts that come with moving in harmony with your true nature. And it doesn’t know that your survival no longer depends on quashing your most authentic self.
Open up your chest, show it your heart, and let it know that the love and acceptance it’s been seeking is right here, available at any time, all the time.
Ask your young driver it if would like to loosen its grip and sit in the passenger seat for a while. It can point out the wild beauties along the way while your soul guides you down the path that’s been waiting for you all the while.
In sweet harmony, The Chariot
